ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
Let's find out if you are eligible to apply for a reverse mortgage. This is the "long" list of criteria needed.
1. You need to be at least 62 years old.
2. You must own the home in which you live.
That's it! That is all it takes. You can be 62 or 102 years old. You may have good credit, bad credit or no credit. You may have many assets or no assets; be rich or poor. You are allowed to have a large income or no income; a mortgage or no mortgage. Even if you are in poor health, as long as you are at least 62 years old and own the house you live in, you may apply for a reverse mortgage.
Now that we know you are a candidate for a reverse mortgage, I will list some of the things you may receive from it.
1. NO MORE HOUSE PAYMENT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! If you have a mortgage on your house you will no longer have to make payments. That's right, no payments as long as you pay your taxes and remain in your home. (I intend to live in my home for at least 35 more years to be sure I get my money's worth.)
2. TAX FREE MONEY. If you don't have a mortgage on your house (and even sometimes if you do) you get cash. You may receive it in monthly installments, in a lump sum, or a combination of both. If you choose monthly installments, you will continue to receive the payments even if your payout exceeds the the value of your home..
3. YOU RETAIN TITLE TO YOUR HOME. Keep the increasing equity in your home, for yourself and your heirs, as it continues to build.
